Hi Bellend, according to the Romford Recorder yes.  I have also read somewhere that the staff have been given 2 months notice.

Saw the surveyors/engineers with theodolites outside it this morning.
In my opinion would be a great place for a large mixed use retailer like roomes or debenhams.

Hopes petition will save bingo hall

07:00 14 July 2015 (Romford Recorder)

Mecca Bingo, Hornchurch

A petition has been launched in the hope of preventing the sale of Mecca Bingo, in Hornchurch, to developers.

Owners of the art deco building, in High Street, have confirmed an offer for the site is under consideration.

The online petition, launched by Tony Bailey, 46, and Lucy Saunders, 30, states: “I am putting this petition together to keep Mecca Bingo, Hornchurch, alive and to keep this place going for many years as it a great place for socialising and for the community for all ages.”

Lucy added: “It’s not just a place for gambling it’s more of a social, community based environment. Everyone that goes there has made lots of friends.

“It’s mainly old people that go and it’s to far for them to travel to another club.”

The pair estimated that up to 150 people attend the bingo hall on weekend evenings.

A spokesperson for gaming company, The Rank Group, said: “The Rank Group has been made a very good offer for the freehold site in Hornchurch, one which is far greater than the profit we could generate over the next ten to twelve years.

“What will make the decision difficult is the Hornchurch club is performing very well.”

the old trick apply for planning for a mosque, tannery or meat rendering plant when the locals oppose and "win" then apply for the block of flats.
