I would imagine if it is fly tipped you will not object to the sand pits and later the housing estate on Hall lane. You had the fire next the travellers. Then the planning applications.

Have you noticed it gets removed quicker from Upminster than it does Rainham?

General election halts Upminster fly-tipping petition

A petition urging the government to take more action against fly-tippers has been halted due to the general election.

In March, the Upminster and Cranham Residents’ Association (UCRA) made the call for action following widespread community concern over the escalation of the illegal activity around the borough.

Around 560 people had signed the petition, which now has to be completely restarted.

“A lot of people are angry,” said Cllr Ron Ower (East Havering Residents’ Group, Upminster).

“We will start it again.”

All petitions on petition.parliament.uk were closed on May 3 and will not reopen after the election.

This also means that the hundreds of signatures collected, on those that were active, will not be carried over.

Petitions which attract at least 10,000 signatures get a response from the government and the new will decided whether to respond to those that attract the minimum.

At 100,000 signatures, a petition is debated by the government and when a new petitions committee is selected, it will decide which it will talk through.

Despite, the UCRA petition falling well short of the amount required to elicit a government response at the time it was closed, Cllr Ower said the election candidate who wins the role of MP should make fly-tipping one of their priorities.

“We will be getting onto them and chasing them up to give us support on this,” he continued.

“I think higher fines should be imposed.”

Cllr Ower also said the government should help with CCTV costs, which could not be met by Havering Council.

“The council is really up against it,” he added.

“[Removing fly-tipping] is costing us a fortune.”
