£1 million to be raised from parking charge increases? That sounds a familiar story, stuff the motorists.

As usual an attack on the vulnerable , disabled and young . Typical Tory economic policies . Mealy mouthed opposition . Any staff receiving a salary of over £50K will be scrutinised . No suggestion or offer from the political leaders to take a cut in councillors allowances .Spike would suggest that any councillor earning a salary or pension exceeding the national average carry out their civic duties without claiming their allowance except legitimate expenses i.e. mileage , meal allowance , fares .

Percy this is the Conservatives proposal that goes before a Conservative cabinet next week and then before full council....

Lets see how the RA's vote when these cuts are before them and it's "shit or get off the pot" time...

Percy.
Do you not think that the RAs have not already agreed to this lot of proposals many are Tory sympathisers just see being an RA as a way to get voted in for a cushy little job to subsidise their pension.I suspect most will go through. They may have trouble offering 30 minutes free parking as it will increase the cost of enforcement if they make the first 30 minutes stay at 20p then £2 an hour after that it will be easier to enforce and increase takings. What about getting rid of some of the underused assets like the putting green in Upminster which can only cost money to keep and Broxhill centre which is used by less than 20 people per week. Then maybe only build a swimming pool get rid of aspirations for a skating rink.I suppose the really hard choices will have to wait till after the elections next May.

The RAs would sell their own Mother's out for a paid head of committee position. Nice work if you can get it, ask Babs how much the Deputy Mayoress position pays. Not a bad days work in anyone’s book voting through parking charges for one of the poorest areas in the borough with you best chums the Tories in exchange for becoming the Deputy Mayoress.

Is it true an application to build an estate on Maylands has been received?Bet the council will get a fair screw out of that one.Should pay their special allowances for a few years.

Trying to top up the budget deficit already?

Romford residents given illegal parking fines after contractor 'mishap'.

Residents in Rush Green Road have been fined illegal parking tickets for parking outside of their houses, after a contractor missed out their road when painting on new parking bays as part of a scheme introduced by the council.   Residents in Rush Green Road have been fined illegal parking tickets for parking outside of their houses, after a contractor missed out their road when painting on new parking bays as part of a scheme introduced by the council.

Hundreds of pounds worth of illegal parking fines have had to be recalled after a contractor marking out white lines missed out one whole road.

Bemused car owners of Rush Green Road, Romford, were anxiously checking their post this week after word got round that neighbours had received fines for parking on the curb of the pavement outside their homes – despite that being the norm.

In fact, it was a 'misunderstanding' caused by the new council parking scheme in the area that was supposed to include new bays in the street.

Ann Stuart, who was slapped with a £110 fine, said: “I have lived here for 20 years now and have never had any trouble like this. I have always parked in the exact same spot and nothing has ever been said, which made me even more confused when I saw the fine.

“If the council are going to change the rules then tell us about it, don’t just do it without our knowing. If they haven’t changed anything, then why are they causing us so much hassle?”

Cllr Robert Benham said: “It was my belief as a resident of Rush Green Road for over 34 years that the tickets were issued in error, so I immediately contacted the head of streetcare, sent the information and photos and asked him to review the situation as a matter of urgency.”

It was discovered that Havering Council specifically ordered this area to be remarked, but the contractor who drew lines in the surrounding area missed this road entirely.??????????

Ann said: “I’m all in favour of new regulations but only if they help make it clear where one can park.

“It’s just typical that they forgot to paint some lines and assumed it was our mistake and not theirs!”

PCNs have since been cancelled and residents have been sent letters to confirm this.

The council are suspending any parking enforcement in this area until the correct markings are reinstated.

The contractor "missed the road entirely", pity the parking enforcers didn't eh?
Did the contractor also forget to bill the council for the unfinished work?
Will the contractor be billed for the extra administrative work involved with the 'hundreds of pounds worth' of refunds and apologies?

No? I didn't think so!

Re: The Romford Conservatives "Team 20" Budget Cuts

Percy.
When the RAs sold out the back office services it was refuted that any front end services would be lost. Now they are saying that instead of having people to serve you based in Havering you will deal by e mail or web services running on the Newham cloud and the call centre will be based in Newham. So the wheel turns.

The RAs are just self-serving pigs who care nothing for the poorest residents of the borough.
