Ratepayers

Percy.
I see it was a rate payer councilor swung the vote in favour of introducing parking charges on Hilldene.
The rationale that it is only 20p at the moment so will not matter.
I don't disagree with charges on the hill as they should pay as other areas.
However wait till after the election who ever wins will raise the cost of parking the bribes will be over.
It goes to support my conviction that most rate payers are just Tories in disguise.

Re: Ratepayers

the decision on whether hilldene should have had parking charges should not be based on whether other areas have them

Every ward has different needs and each ward can have a higher tolerance for certain measures. The ward hilldene is in is one of the poorest in the borough . The reason these are being done is not really for the 20 p but for the money off the people who dont pay

So true, the 20p charges are hardly worth collecting, the real booty is the £120 fines for the people that refuse to pay.

The council has to establish the parking charge before it can penalise the ones that don't pay/won't pay.

I'm sure they prefer it if you don't pay the original 20p.

Yes i was disapointed that Barbara voted for the charges as for the reason that other areas have to pay it would have been better to argue to remove charges elswhere, also the coment on R As are they tories by another name?

Rate Payers?  Does that group/party still exist?  Perhaps you're living in the past perixion?

RAs today are the shining group who get things done for the public pronto.  In St Andrew's ward they carry the baton with vigour, valour and truth, heralding glory for the electorate.

I think I'll settle for none of us.

I already pay my council tax to live here and my road fund tax to use the roads.

Re: Ratepayers

Percy.
To see what happens if you remove the parking restrictions and wardens.
Have a look at the press reports on Aberystwith.
They got rid of their wardens and parking costs. The result chaos with people double and treble parking .Disabled unable to use the shops .Shops losing business it was murder.
They have restored order and now have the wardens and meters back.
Experiment over back to normal.
If you can get hold of the voting records for the council in the last few years. You will find in most of the close run ballots that the RAs vote with the Tories and never mount an effective opposition.

what would happen if all the parking restrictions are removed is it would be purposely left alone so they can let the issues begin then they can come back and say they were right all along

Many in the shops suggested a 1 hour free parking which i think is more than fair

People need to be discouraged from using cars it shortens their lives both the pollution and lack of exercise.
Its better they walk and the council could sell shopping trollies at reduced rates.

From you're past posts perixion, I understand you use a vehicle every day....A case of do as I say and not as I do?  That reminds me of Tony Blair, David Cameron, Nick Clegg and a few other leading politicians.

BUT, your sentiment is right, of course.

How many residents associations are there in Havering ?
Do they call themselves RA's because they know they would'nt be elected if they declared their true politics?

Re: Ratepayers

Independent man
When it comes to local politics I think its a waste of time voting for the main parties, nine times out of ten they will follow the party line in the way the council is run in Havering or wherever.
At the next local election I will vote for the Independent Party that might be the RA or who ever might be standing in my area,if they win power it will be interesting to see if they work for the people who voted them in,and not for their own self interests or the interest of the party.
