Free parking at Christmas.

In many towns, parking will be free over the next few weeks

Festive shoppers are being encouraged to shop local this Christmas, with the help of complimentary parking across towns and cities.
Across the country, a number of boroughs and councils will be waving costs over the next few weeks in an attempt to help give local businesses an end-of-year boost.

In Cornwall, 11 council owned zones will be free and open to the public from Saturday 9 to Monday 1 January to bring more shoppers and visitors to the local community.
Council leader Adam Paynter said: "Cornwall's towns are great places to visit during the festive season and we're proud to support our local economies by offering free parking in the busy build-up to Christmas.
"Not only does this mean people can take their time shopping, it also means people can spend more time in cafes and restaurants.
"You don't get that experience shopping online."

Even London is involved. In the north of the capital, shoppers in Waltham Forest will benefit from an early Christmas present while they shop for their nearest and dearest, with parking in council car parks free for two hours at weekends and on Thursdays throughout December.
Brent Council is also offering visitors the chance to park for free on the weekends leading up to Christmas in eight car parks.
All of its council car parks will also be free on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, to 'manage demand' and provide an alternative to on-street parking.
Local councillor Eleanor Southwood, said: "Small businesses are the life blood of the local economy, providing jobs and services and adding to the unique diversity of Brent, so we are keen to support our local businesses in whatever way we can.

"I hope that providing free parking across eight sites in the borough at one of the busiest times of the year for businesses will help those who do shop locally to stay loyal, and for those who tend to drive out of the borough to shop, to encourage them to see what local high streets in the borough have to offer."
But will your council be getting involved? A Mirror Money investigation has revealed the councils that are taking part below.
If your local council or borough's not on the list, enter your postcode here and you'll be able to find out whether they're taking part.

In Collier Row the council uses stealth tactics to rob you, they tell you the car park is free, then fine you £130 for not paying.

It's all under the remit of "maximising revenue".  (for the council coffers)

There's no plan to "maximise revenue" for local businesses.

Come on Connie can you see this lot passing up a cash cow like Christmas parking charges?
Problem is they only have three parks in the area Gresham road only open Saturdays Como street the furthest away from the shopping centre and the town hall which I'm not sure is open public parking.
But then look at Hornchurch ts and they are on a winner.

I can't see them giving us anything if they can avoid it.
